Kevin and Kate – Scarlet Corner Café

This article is a part of Your Footscray – an initiative of the Footscray Business Reference Group supported by Regional Rail Link

Kevin and Kate run the Scarlet Corner Café, one of Footscray’s top spots to stop for a coffee.

Kevin, who moved to the area when he was 14, finally realised his dream of opening a café three years ago when he saw an empty shop in the Footscray Market building. Every morning between 7am and 10am the café is filled with regular customers who drop in for a coffee on their way to the train station. After 10am, Kevin is joined by groups of loyal customers who take a seat and enjoy their coffee, conversations and a spot of people watching.

Through the business, Kevin has met many residents of Footscray and come to know their caffeine preferences, encouraging many of them to switch to coffee. It’s often over a cup of coffee, his favourite being a Vietnamese iced coffee speciality ca phe sua da, that he shares stories about the area. His wife Kate works for one of the large organisations moving to Footscray in coming months and she’s looking forward to being close to the Scarlet Corner Café and close to the many great restaurants in Footscray.
